“Anthem? Legend? Ghost? Or Thief? Which one of these, will you be?”
NOTHING BUT THE ROOF is a comedy drama about three friends in 2016, who find themselves in the same place at the same time. That place being the rooftop of a block of flats.
Although NOTHING BUT THE ROOF deals with issues of grief, debt, unemployment and the uncertainties of life. At its core, beats a heart which is in essence, a story about friendship.
NOTHING BUT THE ROOF first premiered at POYNTON PLAYERS theatre in March 2017, for a three-night run. Then a one-off performance at the SCOUT HUT in Sutton Macclesfield, at the end of October.
The play was then chosen to kick off the Powerhouse Plays season at HOPEMILL THEATRE in Manchester the following year.
It is only now, almost eighteen months after HOPEMILL, that the schedules of all those involved with the production, have been able to come together once more to showcase this play.
From the premiere performance this play has been very much a work in progress and after each performance it has evolved. What we started with at POYNTON, was different to what we ended up with at HOPEMILL and we will now use the experience from performing at HOPEMILL, to move the production on another step yet again.
This August, the cast of three will be back on that roof again. They hope you will join them there.
REVIEWS FROM THE CRITICS AT HOPEMILL
“This is an important play which raises some interesting points about modern Britain and one that should be seen by as many people as possible, it will certainly make you laugh and offer some food for thought…” MATT FORREST for Opening Night Review.
“…Captivating with its twists and turns as each character evolves throughout the evening, with friendship at its core. This story is heart warming and thought provoking…” KATIE LEICESTER for Number 9 reviews.
“…Nothing But The Roof appears to be a promising and innovative piece of theatre that rather unusually pitches the menacing discomfort of a thriller against a razor-sharp script. Acknowledged as still being in the embryonic development stage, this is a show that already represents an original welcome change from the usual outputs of conventional theatre world.” THE GM REVIEWER.
