Green Bin Collection Announcement from Stockport Council

Stockport Council issued the following news release last week:

Stockport’s Green Bin collection to start fortnightly service from Monday 11 May

We can confirm that the green bin service will start a fortnightly collection from Monday.

Residents should put their green bin out for collection on the same day that their black bins are usually collected, no later than 7am.

Please resume putting food waste in your green bin.

Blue bins are now collected every 4 weeks at the same time as the brown ones shown on the calendar. Black and green are collected at the same time as each other, on the black bin days shown on the calendar.

You can check the days for your bin collection by going to this line typing in your postcode:

The full collection notice is here

We’re following the government’s guidance and we’ll continue with our essential bin collections but will be running at a reduced capacity.

The crews are working really hard to complete as many rounds as possible and we’re training more staff to support them. Despite this, we need to introduce a new collection schedule for the time being due to the impact of coronavirus on the service.

Your safety and that of our crews

The welfare of our staff alongside the welfare and needs of our residents are uppermost in our minds.

How can you help?

We’d really appreciate your help and support at this challenging time and ask that you reduce how much waste you put out for collection, if you’re able to.

To help keep the bin crews safe, please follow this advice:

Protect your bin crews

If anyone in your household has a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus you must:

  • put all used tissues and cleaning cloths in a plastic rubbish bag
  • double bag and tie it tightly when full
  • after 72 hours the bag should then be placed in your black non-recyclable waste bin

Bin collections

  • create less garden waste in your green bin to make sure we can prioritise food waste collections
  • re-use and recycle as much as you can and please make sure your recycling is clean and dry
  • store any extra waste like cardboard and paper in your home if possible

Bin and liner deliveries

All deliveries have been suspended and will start again a soon as possible.

Bulky collections

All collections have been suspended and will start again a soon as possible.
